Abstract
Thoracic paravertebral block is a technique of injecting local anesthetics to thoracic paravertebral space, which results in ipsilateral somatic and sympathetic nerve blockade. It is not only useful in postoperative pain analgesia for thoracic surgery and breast surgery but also treating acute herpes zoster pain. But thoracic paravertebral block with classic technique is associated with considerable adverse effects such as pneumothorax due to accidental pleural puncture. On the other hand, the thoracic paravertebral lamina technique is a safe and uncomplicated method for pain therapy. We report the experience to successfully perform pain therapy for acute herpes zoster by this lamina technique for placement of a paravertebral catheter.
